Day 4 and 5 Tuesday and Wednesday
After the terrible weather dished up on day 4, day 5 did not start out any different. Rain fell, sometimes heavily all throughout the day until late afternoon where somehow the sunshine burst through and stars appeared as the skies darkened.
For those that braved the conditions, not even a the thickest and most sturdy raincoat would have kept the rain at bay, except an Atomic Wet weather suit, but the weather sometimes brings the fish and inshore anglers were rewarded. The biggest blackfish was a fat and healthy 465mm model for Brendon Palmer. The bream category was much tighter with a 416mm bream edging out a 408mm version for Robert Donnelly. The flathead continue to get close to the 1m mark but todays 918mm fish was the day winner for Martin Soutar. Alexander Klassen is always at the top of the whiting category and on day 5 his 420mm fish was enough for the win. Tailor was won by Ethan Donnelly with a 605mm fish.
Offshore was possibly nice in the morning despite the rain but the wind is forecast to blow into the evening although it seems still as I write this. The AJ/Sambo category was won for day 5 by Natalya Hayman. The next best was a distant 250mm plus shorter for Lodan Hayman. The King/Cobia was won by Darcy Banks but a solid 1025mm cobia came in second for Scott Russell. Mulloway again was dominated by over 1300mm fish with Glenn Banks taking out that. Stephen Banks was victorious for both snapper and pearl perch. Ethan Donnelly rounded out the offshore fish with a 605mm trag.
The judges award went to Michael Roberts with a giant cuttlefish.
We hope everyone is enjoying themselves and while this is a competition that the rivalry is always friendly and fair. It is fishing after all and we want everyone to enjoy themselves.
