🟡 Day 7 – Can You Tell Me How to Get to… the Leaderboard? 🐟
Today’s action at the Evans Head Fishing Classic felt like an episode of Sesame Street, where every character had their moment in the spotlight and there were plenty of lessons about patience, persistence and pulling in trophy fish!
👹 AJ-Sambo was today’s Cookie Monster, gobbling up the podium with an incredible clean sweep. Daniel Hamer (980mm), Ethan Donnelly (960mm) and Brad Mayes (626mm) made sure there weren’t many crumbs left for the competition.
🟢 Big Bird stood tallest in the Kingfish category, with Stephen Banks stretching out to an impressive 1210mm fish. Chad Banks (1180mm) and Riley Jenkins (1165mm) kept the giant yellow bird looking over his shoulder.
🦈 Oscar the Grouch would have loved the Mulloway drain, where Stephen Banks backed up again with a cracking 1060mm fish ahead of Riley Jenkins (1040mm) and Kim Richter (825mm).
🎣 Bert and Ernie couldn’t be separated across several of today’s categories. Bernard Richter’s 887mm Flathead was a standout performance, while Ryder Johnston (459mm) edged Luke Tinson (448mm) by just 11mm in the tightly contested Bream-Tarwhine division.
⭐ The Count had plenty to count in Judges Choice. Riley Constable stole the show with a monster 1300mm Wobbegong, while Philip Trevor’s Longtail Tuna (810mm) and Elijah Wise’s colourful Tuskfish (470mm) proved that this category always delivers something unexpected.
🐠 Around the neighbourhood, there were strong performances from:
- Callum Carmont with the biggest Blackfish (460mm)
- Andrew Paterson leading the Dart (450mm)
- Stephen Banks adding another category win with Snapper (880mm)
- Mal Hancock taking out Tailor (640mm)
- Riley Jenkins landing the best Trag (618mm)
- Alexander Klassen topping the Whiting with 450mm
- Ethan Donnelly claiming Pearl Perch honours (451mm)
🎉 As the competition heads towards the finish, the leaderboard is looking more like Sesame Street itself — full of colourful characters, memorable performances and a few familiar faces appearing again and again. The only question left is… who will be singing the victory song at the end of the week? 🏆🐟
