🏉 EVANS HEAD FISHING CLASSIC – DAY 6 ADULT RESULTS
💥 “It’s Origin Time at Evans Head – Big Fish, Big Hits, and Big Moments”
Day 6 of the Evans Head Fishing Classic had all the tension and impact of a State of Origin decider—full of powerhouse performances, close calls, and some jaw-dropping numbers that’ll be replayed in highlight reels for years. If you thought the fish were scared before, today they were running for the border.
Leading off like a fullback on a kick return, Mackenzie Luck blitzed the AJ-Sambo category with a 1026mm giant—pure James Tedesco brilliance, carving up the field and leaving defenders (and fish) in his wake.
In blackfish, the battle was as gritty as a wet night at Leichhardt Oval. Bernard Richter took out top honours with a 428mm fish, playing the role of the relentless workhorse à la Dallas Johnson. He was chased down by Jayden Newton (388mm), Rick Bennett (375mm), and Alexander Klassen (375mm) in a four-way forward-pack tussle where every millimetre was earned the hard way.
The bream-tarwhine showdown was a tactical grind, but John Anderson stepped up like a cool-headed halfback, landing a 430mm catch and steering the win home. Wayde Hull (423mm) and Brooke Saxby (393mm) weren’t far behind—both keeping the scoreboard ticking over with Origin-level composure under pressure.
Then came dart, and Shane Griffiths broke the line with a blistering 444mm catch—pure Tom Trbojevic explosiveness. Dylan Carbery (415mm) and Nick Carbery (400mm) kept the pressure on, like dual wingers hitting the edge with speed.
Flathead was a forward’s game—big, heavy, and hard to stop. Mal Hancock led the charge with a 925mm beast, just edging Tegan Schneider (923mm) and George Little (905mm). It was like watching Payne Haas, David Fifita, and Junior Paulo hit the line back-to-back.
The Judges’ Choice category was straight-up highlight reel material. Jacqui Kerr pulled in a 1017mm longtail tuna, Daly Cherry-Evans-like in execution. Brett Kelly delivered a flashy 996mm goldspotted sweetlip, and Bianca Russ brought home the crowd-pleasing parrotfish at 498mm—a Queensland-style strike from out wide.
In King-Cobia, the numbers were freakish. Cameron Gillespie smashed the record books with a 1380mm slab—an Arthur Beetson-sized impact. Patrick Jones followed closely with 1340mm, and Scott Coventry clocked in a massive 1188mm, proving this Origin front row wasn’t backing down any time soon.
The mulloway clash was pure power rugby. DJ McKenna ran riot with a 1295mm monster, with Jake Bakker just short at 1173mm, and Joshua Hotschilt and Daniel Outerbridge locked in at 1101mm. That’s not a leaderboard—it’s a tackle count.
Snapper saw Mitchell Gray go over the line first with an 861mm fish, barely holding out Benjamin Campbell and Troy Dixon, who both came in at 860mm. A three-way tie that screams golden point drama.
In tailor, it was all about precision. Mark Bonnor (550mm) led the team talk, with Ryan Kernaghan (528mm) and Mark Sines (522mm) staying close—just like Origin wingers holding their line under pressure.
Trag turned into a bash-and-barge set with Chad Banks crashing through the middle with a 774mm effort. Shantell Little (737mm) and Aydan Clothier (611mm) weren’t far behind, landing solid metres all the way through.
And finally, the whiting category wrapped up the day like a well-executed Origin set piece. Alexander Klassen posted a 417mm catch, Brooke Saxby followed with 365mm, and Michael Gibson closed things out with 350mm. Steady, patient, and perfectly timed—just like a grubber through the line from Cameron Smith in his prime.
Day 6 wasn’t just a scoreboard—it was an Origin arena. Tension, tactics, and the occasional spectacular breakaway all combined to deliver a truly unforgettable round of fishing. As we near the end of the Classic, the leaders are building momentum—and the chase is on.
Only one question remains: who’s lifting the trophy on Friday night?
