Day 6 Thursday

The weather came, showers fell, but mostly it stayed away allowing competitors to hit the water and have a ball. We headed out with the guys from Prime 7, who we think just wanted a ride for the day. Conditions were stellar and we interviewed a couple entrants and that was all we managed to do. Didn’t even get to wet a line.

Offshore the wind blew from the west and a quick look off the wall mid-morning suggested most boats had headed wide. The AJ/Sambo category was won by Darcy bank who would have amassed quite a few rods by now. Coady Strong took out the King/Cobia with a 1170mm fish ahead of Toby Russell, and Josh Obrien. Offshore the mulloway have been biting hard and Kenneth Parker’s 1268mm was enough to see him win the day. DJ McKenna came second with a respectable 1225mm fish. Pearl Perch was won by Stephen Banks and Snapper by Alex Campbell.

Inshore, as always the blackfish were on and Bernard Richter, usually chasing dart mixed it up for the win with a 471mm fish. Bream was won by Luke Tinson with a 420mm fish. The flathead seem to be shrinking with a all the fish today under the 900mm mark. Glenn Hitchens’s fish of 821mm was enough for the win. Dart was won by Ryan Kernaghan with Bernard Richter second. The forever fishing Alex Klassen and his 437mm whiting took out first today with Sharon McQuilty second with a 417mm fish.

The judges award went to Joshua Hotschilt with a smashing mangrove jack of 525mm.
