Day 3 Monday

It was all happening on today. The weather gods smiled a little and delivered cloudy skies with no rain. Offshore waters were reportedly a little choppy but plenty of people headed out to chase whatever they could land. Back inshore the waters were kind to competitors and some quality fish images came in.

The inshore species were pretty impressive. A 455mm bream for Spike Lieberman took out first ahead of Cynthia King and Robert Donnelly. Blackfish was won by Ray Palmer with an 440mm fish. The Dart category is hotly contested always but a 462mm fish for Monty Moore beat out Bernard Richter’s 427mm fish. As always there are some quality flathead caught and today was no exception with a great 826mm shovel. Another 70cm plus tailor took out the win in that category with a 703mm fish for Geoffrey Hoss McGrath. It was daylight to second place Joel Pirlo with a 506mm version. Whiting was taken out, not for the first time by Alexander Klassen.

The offshore conditions were tough but a couple solid trag saw that category very congested at the top. Danny Samuel’s 680mm fish was 5mm ahead of David Bodley’s. That was only 5mm better than Jamie Beddoe’s 665mm fish. Some mighty snapper were also caught with a 938mm fish for Alex Campbell taking out the daily win. Joshua Clark landed a 590mm Pearl Perch just beating Arrow Oldfield’s 588mm fish. Offshore Mulloway featured strongly with a massive 1285mm fish winning out over second place with a 1235mm fish. The winner for the day was Jakeb Simmons. The kingfish cracked a metre for Scott Russel with a 1038mm fish for first place for the day. AJ/Sambo was won by Arrow Oldfield. The judges choice was a prehistoric hairtail for Michael Knox.

With further light winds ahead of strengthening southerlies the offshore conditions look good for tomorrow and will see more quality fish being caught.

Don’t forget trivia will be on at Club Evans from 3pm on Tuesday if you want to get a team together.
